2009 Under The Pier Party
Despite poor weather doing its level best to
disrupt matters everyone enjoyed listening to
Mannin Folk do their best to supply cheerful
music and the kids, and not a few adults, were
ably entertained by Cookie the clown. If medals
were handed down for services to entertainment
over and above the call of duty he would head
the queue. He was more persistent than the rain
that did its best to wash us out. At one time
his red nose washed off and his green hair
turned a most colourful hue.
Truly "The Show must go on" never had a more
appropriate moment.
Crowd were slow but steady throughout the day
with their welcome messages of support for the
cause and the children on the Beach with their
Competition Castles made good use of the ready
supply of fresh water for moats etc.
Marine Life
On display at the Pier were a selection of the
excellent photographs taken by divers at the
base of the Pier. There was Soft Coral in
abundance, Anemones in multiple shapes and hue,
Star Fish, Rock Fish, Lobsters and lots of
things we can only guess the names of.
The divers have kindly given their permission to
show these submarine delights on the attached
link. Enjoy!
We understand that there is talk of a Marine
Park on an artificial reef somewhere in the
south of the Island, naturally, and yet here in
Ramsey we already have such a feature at little
or no cost to anyone. All Government have to do
is grasp the nettle and restore the Pier and let
these creatures flourish.
In many of the pictures you can see these
fortunate creatures enjoying the undoubted
pleasures of the Queen's Pier. What a pity that
we cannot yet do the same! How much longer must
we wait?
