The Queen's Pier Story .. .. ..

August 2004 Newsletter

And NOTICE OF ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

It is now ten years since the Friends were formed, following a public meeting called by Jack May and his wife Ivy. Sadly both have now passed away, however their fundamental mission remains in that we seek to save The Queen's Pier for safe unlimited public access now and well into the future.

Whilst your committee has been very active during this last decade, progress has been painfully slow.

The current position is that the Department of Transport (DOT) has commissioned a further report into the condition of the pier, using the BWB Partnership who have previously prepared realistic reports for ourselves, to report on the various options open to it and the associated costs of these being carried out. We understand that DOT has now received the report and is reviewing its contents prior to reporting to the Minister, the Hon. John Shimmin. It is envisaged that we will be included in the ensuing dialogue prior to reporting the matter to Tynwald in November in order to seek the appropriate funding.
